New year’s resolutions are so 2018. Our intentions are always good and motivation is high at the start but inevitably life gets in the way, we lose interest and slip back into our usual habits. For 2019 we are proposing an alternative - twelve monthly challenges.
Each challenge will work towards developing your physical capabilities and mental health but also positively contribute towards our community. Ultimately working towards a happier and healthier you.
Along the way, we want to help you learn about your body and our region. In an age of mis-information it is becoming increasingly easier to become overwhelmed with opinions as to what’s best for your health and wellbeing. We aim to provide you with correct, up-to-date, scientifically supported advice from qualified local health, science and business professionals.
Below is the sneak peek of our 12-monthly challenges:
January 👉🏼 Eat 5 vegetables and 2 fruits every day.
February 👉🏼 Accumulate a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate intensity exercise each week. Include at least 2 strength sessions per week.
March 👉🏼 Aim for 7-8 hours sleep every night. Sleep! It’s good for you.
April 👉🏼 Purchase all of your fruit and veg, meat and seafood and milk from the local markets or local, family owned stores. Be sure everything you eat was sourced locally!
May 👉🏼 Explore. Choose two local destinations to visit each week. A new café, the beach, the hinterlands whatever tickles your fancy.
June 👉🏼 Floss your teeth daily.
July 👉🏼 Reduce, re-use or recycle. Try going plastic free for a month!
August 👉🏼 Disconnect and reconnect. Limit leisurely screen time to less than 30 minutes a day.
September 👉🏼 An organised life. Set yourself 3 tasks to do every day and tick them off.
October 👉🏼 Breathe. Take slow breaths for 2 minutes at breakfast lunch and dinner.
November 👉🏼 Get your 10 000 steps every day. Thirty minutes of exercise a day doesn’t negate the effects of a sedentary job / lifestyle.
December 👉🏼 Slip, Slop, Slap. Wear sunscreen daily and a hat when you are outside.
